This month, we want you to #SaveforYourGoal, so the theme is all about saving money. At Dr. Budgets, we work with our clients to help them achieve their financial goals, and we hope to inspire everyone (clients or not!) to save a little more money this month for goals.
Before you start to #SaveforYourGoal, you’ll want to identify one strong goal for all the money you’ll save this month. As I have written about in the past (Why You Need Strong Financial Goals), it is important to have a purpose for the money you save. For example, if you save money on your grocery bill this month, where does that money go? For many people, it simply disappears because it gets wrapped up in other spending.
When you have an important reason to save – such as paying off your debt, buying your first home, taking a nice vacation, or buying your dream car – not only is it easier to save, but you find new and creative ways to save for that goal. I have seen it time and time again with my clients…when they have a strong goal driving their decisions, they have no trouble achieving it, and they do so much faster than they ever thought possible. You, too, can achieve your goals as well following the same formula!
When I work with my clients, I show them several changes they can make to save money to help them reach their specific goals. The key is to find areas that are less important than the goal, so that the changes seem effortless. Unlike what many people think, saving money is NOT about making huge sacrifices; it is about making cuts in areas that are not really important. Sometimes the changes will make a big impact, such as refinancing debt or eliminating a car loan, or often you’ll make many small adjustments that add up to BIG money.
In the spirit of inspiring you to #SaveforYourGoal, I’m excited to announce I will be releasing my first book this month! The title is “10 Ways to Save $10K: A 10 Step Guide to Save over $10,000/Year to Achieve Your Goals.” This e-book offers 10 great ways to save money, but there has to be a strong goal attached to how you will use that money after you save it. This will be critical in drawing the greatest benefit from the book.
We will be sharing more about the release of the book throughout the month on our social media channels (#save10k); so stay tuned to our Facebook page (facebook.com/drbudgets), Google + page (plus.google.com/+Drbudgets) and our YouTube channel. We will also be sharing lots of small savings tips throughout the month; so check our social media pages daily for a new tip (#SaveforYourGoal)!
